'Funny the Bear' at Hampton Day Nursery

Last week the children were very excited to have their Daddies coming to nursery for a ‘Builders Tea’ to celebrate Father’s Day. They sat together at the table with various construction equipment and the children demonstrated their building skills. Everyone enjoyed their tasty sausage and bacon baps, including the children! Joshua said to the other children "I want my Daddy to come to nursery every day!"

This week the children have brought their favourite teddy bears into nursery and have had fun Teddy Bears Picnics. They sat together on the log chairs, sharing their food with their teddies. Matilda said "My teddy loves muffins, just like me!" While Ines held up her teddy George and shouted "George. George gone!" hiding him behind the chair and giggling with the other children.

They have joined in with many activities surrounding the topic of bears. At the beginning of the week they made clay bears, talking about their different features. Sienna said "They have big scary eyes that can see you!" To which Darcey replied "In the dark dark cave where they live!" They have also made up their very own story about one of our big bears at nursery. They called him 'Funny the bear' who ate a big chocolate egg, did a very funny dance and splashed in muddy puddles. Robyn said "If we wear our welly boots we can splash in big, big puddles!" They have also been mixing water and oats together, to make tasty porridge, pretending it was for the 3 bears. Elara said "We can't let Goldilocks find the porridge; she might eat it all up!"

This week the babies have been practicing their motor skills. They enjoyed playing with the gulleys placed on the wooden bench to roll their cars down. Xanthe rolled her car down first, as it came down to the bottom she said “Yay” whilst Thomas tried to get his car down a tube that was too small. He soon worked out to try another!

The babies had fun indoors with the puzzles and tried quite successfully at putting the pieces into the boards. The babies placed them well with James sharing the puzzle with Ines. After putting the pieces into the right places they laughed and smiled as the board was full. Rowan had a go at the stacking towers, however after over stacking the tower it fell over. Rowan gave a big smile and a small giggle before Emily came over to help her fix it. Thomas did some drawings with the crayons using his pincer grip to make marks. After finishing with the crayons he stood the crayons up in front of him pointing at them saying “Ta” to Eve so she could have a go and put them away.

The Gruffalo at Molesey!

This week the children have been focusing on ‘The Gruffalo’. Although we have had lots of rain this week the toddlers and pre school children have been wearing wet suits running around the outdoor area and making campfires, and cooking up Gruffalo crumble! Ezra said "It's hot so we have to blow it" whilst Thomas mixed together mud, bark and water, and said "I am stirring it before the Gruffalo comes!". They enjoyed a nature walk around the garden searching for The Gruffalo. The children all showed lots of different expressions and were "roaring" as they tip toed to look for him. Amelie shouted "I can see him! Quick, in the sand pit" as all the children ran to the sand pit noticing they made foot prints there.

The babies have had a great week exploring lots of different activities such as a ‘Gruffalo crumble’ which was consisted of porridge oats, rice and cornflakes and spoons and funnels. They showed great control handling objects moving them around mixing up the mixture. They babies have also enjoyed using the musical instruments and listening to nursery rhymes such as ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ and they showed their excitement by smiling and wiggling!

1, 2, 3 go!!

The children have been looking at speed and distance this week. The guttering was set up leading to card on the floor, with paint added to the bottom of each piece of guttering. They each had their own car and took turns to roll them, to see how far they would go. After three the children let their cars go, with Matilda shouting "1,2,3 go!" They cheered as their cars raced down and through the paint. They couldn't wait to see the marks their cars made and decide whose car went the furthest. They closely looked at the paint and compared the length. In the end they decided all the cars went very fast! The children have also been discussing letter sounds this week, with 'M' being the sound of this week. They sat together, making the sound and thinking of words that began with ‘M’. Zac said "Moon!", Elara said 'Maya. That's my cousin!" And they all knew that 'Mummy' was definitely an 'M' word. They had lots of fun drawing and painting their ideas of M words they thought of and showed each other - great work!

The babies have been practising their balancing skills this week. James and Arthur picked up a small wooden block each, placing it on the floor in front of them. They placed one foot on top of the block and held their arms up to balance themselves. As they wobbled and fell off, they looked at each other and giggled. Some of the older children, helped them by making a small obstacle course with the bigger blocks. Rowan joined James and Freddie and as they walked along, with Rowan pulling herself up to stand. The babies were very proud of themselves for their accomplishments, clapping along with each other. The babies have also been playing with the balls, kicking and rolling them around the garden. Rowan sat with the ball resting her hands on top, while Freddie and James kicked as hard as they could and chased after the ball as it rolled away.

People who help us!

The toddlers and preschool children have been talking about people who help us and the different jobs they do, such as Police Officers, Fire Fighters and Doctors. They have been making use of the play gym making emergency calls to the police, “Quick police come quick" they said on the phone. Thomas was hiding in the cosy area and used a cushion for his leg telling his friends "I have hurt my leg".

The children have been exploring different textures in the large trays crunching Cornflakes, Rice Krispies and pasta using different objects such as animals and cars. "Eddie repeated “bang bang" as he was crunching the pasta whilst Albie said "I like Rice Krispies for breakfast,like the animals!".

All the children have enjoyed adventures around Imber Court where they have been crawling, running around and looking for horses. They enjoyed stories under the trees whilst having their snack of fruit and milk.

The babies have been having lots of fun exploring different activities in the baby room. They had great fun with the shredded paper and Duplo in the messy tray, and even more fun throwing it on the floor! They enjoyed exploring the home corner where they have been lifting themselves up to stand showing great control and movement. The babies have also been listening to stories and independently selecting books to look at showing great control holding the book and turning the pages.  

St Mary's care home visit

This week the children visited St Mary's care home. The children took some of the new puzzles with them to share with the elderly residents. Norah Mae said "I can't wait to go, we can show them how good we are!" On the walk to the care home, the children observed what they could see. Jenson pointed out a big bird in the trees and lots of cars passed. As they arrived, the children walked to the door and waited patiently to be let in. They were very friendly to the residents, waving, smiling and saying “hello”. They sat with them, playing with their puzzles, showing them how they worked!

Ines was very excited and started singing “Let it go” at the top of her voice, with laughter coming from all residents. The children and elderly ladies enjoyed each other's company, and spent a while playing together. The fish tank took the children’s interest, and Hlenhaze and Arjun made silly fish faces “Look I am a fish!” which made the ladies laugh. When getting ready to leave, Emily decided to play peek-a-boo with one of the elderly ladies, hiding under the table and popping out shouting "boo" and giggling. We look forward to seeing them again soon!

The babies have had great fun building towers in the garden with the big blocks. Xanthe loved to help count the blocks as we built them higher and higher, "Three, four" she repeated with the staff. Well done! James and Freddie decide to build a tower together, and as it started to wobble they both giggled. They both pushed it over to see it crash to the ground, and Thomas decided he would like to help and came rushing over with a dustpan and brush! "Ta" Thomas said to his friends as he was trying to sweep up the blocks. Rowan joined in helping Thomas to pick up some bricks.

We also had great fun playing with some lavender plant stems and flowers in the water tray. Thomas pointed to the mixture encouraging Xanthe to touch it, as Ines looked disapproving as she felt the texture "Ewww" she said. The children were encouraged to smell the mixture, and as they lent forward for a smell, Thomas splashed them all instead! They all screamed and giggled, as Thomas ran off to play. Great fun!
