At Molesey nursery, we consider our curriculum very carefully. We want our children to learn and also have fun! We include Outdoor Learning each day.

The Key person system

When you child starts nursery with us it can be both exciting and a little worrying for children and their families. Parents and families are the centre of your child’s first years and that’s why every child is assigned both a key person and buddy key person when starting nursery. Your key person is the familiar face for you and your child at nursery. The buddy key person ensures every child can always feel safe and secure at nursery.

The key person approach allows practitioners to create a special bond with your child, enabling a positive and strong relationship to be built. This will result in your child feeling happy and confident and able to leave you, full of excitement and positive emotions and ready to engage in their learning. Your key person will plan key experiences based on your child's interests and stage of development and will regularly share these observations with you. We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and we welcome parental contributions to the learning that takes place at nursery.
Over time your child will develop new relationships and form attachments with some of the other wonderful practitioners.

Parents as partners

We involve parents at every stage of each child’s development, and we believe in forming strong partnerships with all our families. Parents are their child’s primary educators and their children’s lifelong promoters of development and learning. A parent’s knowledge of their own child and the things that make them unique ensures a good understanding of a child’s needs to do the best for each child and the possibility of supporting learning at home. Children learn at different rates and our partnerships with parents ensures that each parent is kept up-to-date on their child’s learning and development.  We value the individuality and diversity of our families and welcome any contributions from parents as we consider the partnership between nursery and home is essential.

We record, and celebrate children’s progress using ‘Tapestry’ online learning journals and care diaries which are fully interactive. You can download the Nursery App to your mobile device or log in with your personal password to the Tapestry website to see the daily care routines we provide as the day progresses. This includes information about: mealtimes, sleeps, toileting and anything else of note.
We are always happy to discuss your child’s progress with you at any time, in addition to our six monthly parent evenings. We encourage open conversation at handovers to make sure that the communication between you and your child’s key person is strong.
Our website has a wealth of information, including latest news, weekly menus and recipes and more. We also email you throughout the year with information and updates.
We realise that it is important for you to have opportunities to meet up and get to know each other better. We arrange several events during the year in order for you to meet up together such as tea parties and concerts. There is Nursery Parents WhatsApp Group which enables you to arrange further social events, share recommendations, or sell items for example.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The early years are among the most important in a child's life and at Molesey Day Nursery we provide the stimulation and security that young children need. The Nursery recognises that every child is special with different needs and developing at different rates. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This teaches and educates your child through high quality play experiences.

It consists of a statutory framework for the Early Years which sets the standards for learning development and care for children from birth to five years. The practice guidance documents support staff in assessing a child's progress and helps them to provide the best learning experiences for all babies and children.

Further information on the curriculum can be seen on the parent portal*.
