Tree Trolls!
The subject of Trolls came up this week , and they decided to make a house for the Trolls in the trees. Elara said ‘They hide in the secret holes and dance and sing!’ They added sticks and leaves’ ‘The Trolls will eat the leaves and flowers!’ said Alexander. They extended their play by using the mud kitchen, utilizing pots to mix amazing and very special concoctions for the Trolls to taste. Jasmin had the brilliant idea to make beds for the Trolls , and they went to the woodwork bench to make some! They sang songs from the film Trolls, and using their imaginations made up stories about them, and even made a map with sticks to helps their friends find the special house.
MOTHER’S DAY TEA PARTY REMINDER:
We will be having our fabulous annual Tea Party for all you lovely Mums 5pm -6pm on THURDAY 28th March to celebrate Mother’s Day 31st March. The children will join you and serve up tasty treats, and will present you with your card and gift they have made. Please do join us should your child not attend on a Thursday. Should you be unable to attend, please let the ladies know and they will make sure your child brings home your card and gift before Thursday.
The babies have been exploring the new kitchen units this week. They played with the cornflakes , enjoying the texture, sound and taste. They listened carefully to the sound they made as others crunched them, whilst Harry felt them and spread them across the floor. They have also used the toy food, serving it up to one another, whilst James and Ines washed their hands in the kitchen sink. James would have preferred the tap to be real with running water, as he kept tapping it with his hand waiting patiently for the water to appear! Freddie tried to feed the staff a banana, and was only satisfied when the staff member pretended to eat it, with big giggles.
World Book Day!
The children celebrated World Book Day throughout the week. They brought in their favourite stories and were very excited to show their friends. These were read out at group time and the children identified and copied some of the phrases from the books. They pointed out the characters they were dressed as, and even acted them out! One of the girls made up her own song and began to sing ‘I’m a mermaid, a mermaid, just look at me!’ ‘I’m a flying Gecko’ said one of the boys, and thrust out his arms, running about, and another said ’I’m puss in boots! On guard!’. This was followed by meowing and laughing.
They visited the park in their outfits as you can see, acting out The Bear Hunt, and collected sticks and threw them into the pond to see how far they could go. They climbed onto trunks logs and hills, making up their own stories as they travelled. We hope you enjoy spending the book token and enjoy the book you buy!
The babies and toddlers have been exploring new ways to move. They went to the park for a lovely walk where they noticed the grassy mounds. James was straight over to them, climbing over them as well as tumbling down the other side, with huge giggles. He joined the other children by running up to them and chasing them back. The moment theme continued at nursery, with Millie and Joshua eager to climb up the steps. Ines was particularly good on the balancing beam, and even helped the staff assist the other little ones by pointing at what to do whilst she watched. At one point Freddie held her hand for support and smiled. How kind! Thomas and Emily went into the sand area, and made their own mounds, practicing how to build and knock them down!
Hungry Frogs!
The children re-enacted the Hungry Frog book, and searched in the shredded paper pile to find the frogs. Theo noticed the frogs eyes peek out form the mass of paper, and laughed as he said ‘ It’s watching me!’ Sienna giggled and said ‘It wants to eat you!’. They then decided to feed the shredded paper to the frogs. Amelia thought it looked like snow and threw it up into the air to whoops of delight from her friends. They then read the story together and talked about what they could see. Douglas pointed to a picture of a frog and said ‘It looks funny!’ . This was followed by looking into the nursery pond to see if they could see any real ones. They saw the fish , but no success with the frogs this time. Soon be time for frog spawn!
The babies and toddlers have been exploring their sensory environment. They went to Bushy Park, and as it was windy took some the bubble mixture and chased bubbles about. Hlenhaze even had a go at blowing bubbles himself! Eloise was clapping her hands and smiled when a bubble popped on her nose! Whilst chasing the bubbles they found some logs and tree stumps. They explored, feeling the bark, and climbing onto the stumps as you can see. They collected leaves and twigs and took them back to the nursery, and added them to the water tray. Thomas and James were smelling the leaves and pouring water onto the floor. James splashed in it whilst Thomas laughed and pointed. Some of the little ones explored the natural materials in a different way, placing them onto the light box to see the patterns, shadows and colours.
